Victoria, Sakina and I went to the zoo. We saw  7  Giraffes, 10 lions, 24 spider monkeys  and 9 elephants.

How many animals all together.

7, 10, 24, 9  [altogether  ]

P:  The words Altogether gives me the clue that it is an addition
problem.

S: I will solve  the problem using Place Value

10  +  24  +  7  +  9  = 50  

      24 + 10 =34    9 + 7 = 16     

16 + 34 = 50
